Our Very First Cakes

It was late November 2011 when me and my bestfriend decided to sell brownies and cookies in the office during christmas season. Unexpectedly, one of our client asked us if we also sell cupcakes, since she needed it for her daughter's 1st birthday party. Since we haven't tried it before, we agreed to provide a sample in a week so we still have time to prepare one. 

We've read articles on basic baking, check for recipes, purpose of each of the ingredients and there.. we were able to make our own cupcake recipe and frosting, but the problem is, how are we going to design the cupcakes?! - fondant. 

So again, we checked the internet for any recipes, but most of what we've found are vague, some are not applicable with the equipment we had that time, some have negative feedbacks such as "not good tasting". But since we're very desperate to create one, we've reviewed the tips given in all the articles we've read so we can alter the recipes inlcuding ratios, time, temperature and moisture. Luckily we were able to successfully produce our very first fondant, we colored it with pink. Then we tried another, this time we let it be as it is - white. There goes our first cake. We were very happy that moment, we couldn't believe that we were able to make one.

After our first fondant cake, we had so many failures in making fondant, funny right? We were just lucky that our first try was a success, that keeps us going and continue trying despite all the losses after our first cake. If we hadn't succeed on our first try, we might have just given up that very moment and look for alternative, such as purchasing readily available rolled fondant on the market, which is really costly and not practical, just to compensate our need to design our cupcakes, and we won't continue the cake/cupcake business.

Since we were able to pull out our very first cupcake order, we've decided to continue this business. Although it was really simple, this is where our cake story started.
